About
The Institute began training in 1967. It was the first such program of a local builders association in the United States. The Institute is a model for other others in the National Association of Home Builders federation. This initial effort was duplicated several times and gave impetus to the establishment of a program in carpentry. Electric began in 1978 and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) in 1984. Facilities Maintenance was added in 2009. Plumbing, Masonry and Welding were added in 2012. In 2021 Diesel Mechanics for construction was added. With the addition of their second location in Covington and in partnership with the city the Institute will operate the Covington Academy for Heritage Trades beginning in 2023.
